I was talking to Gerry Prosser at Bender Canada and was asking him where to clutch my sled at,being that it's trail ported by Bender. He suggested running clickers in a ported engine but to be honest I'm happy with the 8DN-20 MrViper setup in it now,it pulls great and is trailable.but I wonder if clickers would give me any more oomph for, say, the odd drag race?I know gearing and a whole host of other variables play into the equation.
Anyway to make a long story shorter Prosser told me to shoot for 85-8600.Is anyone else running Bender trail porting in a 00-02 SRX?Does that rpm sound right?I know any higher and the cdi will drop off timing so I want to be sure before I get crazy and screw something up.
He also said to use a Bender 9873 helix with the clickers but he wouldn't tell me the angles so I was wondering if anyone knew what they might be.It isn't listed in the aftermarket helix thread. What I would like to do is setup 2 sets of clutches, one with my trail setup now and the other to run at some fun drags with the guys, just to show them what's what.

Hmm I wonder if this isn't a case of Gerry reading the numbers wrong.53/43 would seem just about right for a ported engine, but I'm only going by the fact that my stock 98 w/clickers has a 50/39.

that guy had some fast srx,s, i think his point is h/c are great for racing, extremely tuneable and can gain pure acceleration. shoot for 8450- 8500-8600 no more, no less. 3;16 (yammie tony)

Interesting stuff here. Let me share my experience with a 9870. I have a Mr Viper trail ported 01 SRX. I bought it with the work already done. It has 8DN20 wieghts with 4.5 rivets plus a washer on the tip rivet. www spring. Green secondary spring at 70 wrap(maybe it was 60). 9870 helix. I was hitting 8800-8900rpm...no good. I had a guy just tell me that the 9870 actually measures out to 51/43. Mr Viper recomends 54/46 for his trail ported SRX....should be running 8500rpm. I have a 54/46 on the way and hope to test it out at the TY ride in Muninsing weekend after next.

I am kinda confused with the 9870 helix...the previous owner wrote 54/44 on it. He says that he ordered a 54/44 from bender and this is what they sent him....maybe bender just tried to get him in the right direction by sending him a 9870...but in reality it wasnt what the customer wanted. Also....it looks to me that the helix has dalton's logo on the face....does dalton make benders helix's?

I think you misheard him on the phone he said "9870p" which would sound like 9873, ninety eight seventy three p. The 3 and P sound the same with some accent!
The 9870p is from a 98 srx700 clutch kit for ported motor. I dont know of any such number as 9873 because it wouldnt fit benders number and letter system.

That's definitely the Dalton logo, both my SRXs are running their helixs. My 01 setup is exactly what you stated with the 54/46 helix and it pulls great now,I doubt I'll invest in another set of clutches and heelclickers this winter but I would like to over the summer. It would be nice to have a good hard hitting drag setup to swap in for playing around on a lake with.

Tony to your reply,I had the sled out last weekend on a local lake for some playing around and it was hitting like 85-8600 but I didn't hold it for very long on WOT because I've only got about 15 miles on a fresh rebuild so I don't know exactly how the revs are holding through the shift range. And now our snow is gone so I gotta wait til we get another storm or two.

That sounds more like it.

Fourbarrel, I'm running the Bender trail port in my 2000 SRX and the boys at Bender in New York always guided me to dial my heelclickers for 8350 RPM. Not sure what bendix I'm running, but the sled is the poster child for Bender upgrades. That 9870p that MrViper mentioned sounds familiar. I can check and get back to you.
