Had a 2000 SRX since new. Got a Bender can 6 years ago, love the Indy car sound, but not all day. Have original silencer, and been considering opening it up for weight loss and a bit more volume than stock. Anybody done it and have some tips or suggestions. I ride in the Canadian boonies, so noise isn't an issue, just my 50 year old ears on a full days ride. I'm also concerned about reversion, ie sucking some filings/drilling debris back into the engine after a gutting operation. I've heard the stock silencers flow as good and make the same HP as a can. Does anybody know where I could find an exploded view of the interior of the silencer before I screw it up with exploratory surgery?

if you haven't repacked the bender can in 6 years, that would help quiet it down some. Or just put the stock one back on.
Someone had a post years back about cutting the stock one open and it didn't help.

Stock one makes the most HP. Years ago a member took a number of stingers and his SRX to a shop with a dyno and went through the various ones with dyno readings. The only can that didn't makes less HP was the no longer available Power Inc one. It was shaped about the same as the stocker but I have no idea what they sound like. Any one of the aftermarket cans will undoubtedly be lighter but they won't make the same power.
