Hey all,
I have a 97 Vmax 700. I need new skags and ski skins. What's the difference in metal skies and plastic skies and is it worth doing the plastic Ski conversion? Also, do they make dual runner carbides for this sled? People say the duals are better. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Huge difference going to a good ski. Not necessarily the material but the weight lost with the plastic skis is noticeable. What ski did you have in mind?

Just put a set off a 02 viper I had on a friends 97 SX. We needed the bolts from the Viper ski as the saddle for plastic ski is about a 1/2 inch wider. Direct fit other than that and he says it is like night and day difference, that he could actually steer the sled! Plastics weight less than half as much as the steels. If you find some plastics with red loops the actually look like they belong there.

any Yamaha stock plastic ski is a big improvement over the stock steel skis. lots of guys that upgrade to aftermarket skis sell off their stock skis. anything but the new viper ski will fit on there with the ski bolt replaced as mentioned above.
