Hey all. I want to put electric start on my 97 Vmax 700. But I don't want to buy a kit with brand-new parts and spend all that money. I would rather buy used parts to make something work.. Could anyone tell me exactly what all I would need? My ignition switch already has the "start" position if you turn it the whole way. Also, if anyone has ever done this, any advice would be greatly appreciated! I not 100% sure how to run the wiring, but with having an electrical background I'm sure I could figure it out. The biggest question id have, is does the stator get ran to the battery to charge it, and which wires exactly go to the battery.
Thanks guys!

I just pulled the electric start out of my mountain max. It's an 02. The harness for the solenoid plugs into a 3 pin connector in the main harness by the tors connector for the carbs. The harness is black, red and red with a white tracer. For Yamaha specific parts you'll need the ring gear and bolts and the battery tray. You can buy replacement starters aftermarket. It charges the battery through one of the red harness wires. For the hassle of trying to piece it all together you may be better off finding a used kit on eBay.

Thanks! They already bided that up pretty good. Looking to buy stuff right away. But I'll see if I can buy the pieces individually
