Well, it finally happened. Couple months in the making, anticipating, worrying. My friend with a " new to him" 05 Mach Z. Mostly stock except for a can, as far as he knows. He's a good wrench so this sled was gone thru maintenance wise. My sled has a Hauck Stage 4 kit and I'm geared UP one tooth on the upper. Otherwise that's it for mods.
The setting was part of the trail in Northern Wisconsin, it dumped out onto a perfect, hard packed, snow covered firelane. Flat and smooth, I'd say good 1/2 mile long. I pulled up along side at about 20 mph, we both timed it perfect and neither spun. To my surprise, we stayed dead even till about 60, he then clearly pulled me by a sled, then 2. Then his sled stopped pulling and we were back to even acceleration. At around 100/105 I'd swear I was pulling him back in. We ran out of road and called it a great race. He never looked back so I didn't tell him about the last part. Overall kinda happy with the old girl. She may get a rebuild for putting up a good fight. That might just get me those 2 1/2 sled lengths I need lol.

All new bearings in your skid would get ya 1 length.

Yes Mach z are 1000. My brother has one and they are faster but not by much. There again you only have to win by a hair.

lol, yeah, but 15,000 miles on the original pistons and rings will probably get me more. I think it's time lol
The rest of the sled is pretty well maintained. Just the motor never gave me cause or suspiciousion to tear it apart.

A fresh top end might just put you out in front. It certainly wouldn't hurt the P/M side of things.

Giving up 300CCs it worth the 2sled lengths. My old Inviter was 300CCs.
Yeah, I have to say these sleds do what they were designed to do very well. Still leaves some people scratching their heads saying " it's only a 700 !!! ", and I love that.

HA !!! Good point, I just realized that would be like me on a good speed run and I look over to see my kids on their XCR 440 creeping up on me. CRAP !!!

It's clutched and geared, that's it. Motor has not been touched, still on factory original pistons, rings, even the reeds are original yet. I go thru my sled every fall and only replace what needs replacing, that's all though as I have 4 other sleds in my garage that always need more attention than mine (Polaris). This sport is expensive lol.

I hear yah, my 01 srx has 21000 kms and never been touched only thing I do is the normal maintenance stuff and it still has 119 psi on all cylinders, I wouldn't have a problem holding it to the bar..
