I'd like to run a wider belt and get full use of full shift with my comet 108 so I've been looking for a 88R off a newer exciter and have found nothing. are there other secondary's that would also work? vmax? I've seen some stuff posted on another site about someone using a cat one but don't know which one was used.

Exciter II or 94 vmax secondary will be a bolt and go. There is a newer reverse cam secondary off a phazer that will work also but the bolt and spacer needed for the conversion is discontinued. The only way to run a Cat secondary is to find a jackshaft that is machined for the cat secondary. Micro belmont will make one for about $150. There are some splined Cat secondaries out there that will run on an exciter jackshaft, but they are rare birds.
I just picked up a bunch of parts sleds and probably have a good secondary in the bunch. I could ship it, but it may be a week or so until I sort through the parts.

Will do Lasse. I havent seen any in quite a while. Im always on the look out for stuff like that and I will keep you in mind.

So when swapping secondary's I'm assuming the stock Exciter-II belt will work for this combo ?
Anyone have a belt # for this ?
YAMAHA drive belt:
* Exciter-I ---> Part # 87X-17641-00
* Exciter-II ---> Part # 89L-17641-00

so i been riding the exciter for a week with the used exciter II secondary and knew my belt was sitting just a touch low so decided to tear it down and remove a shim. made a tool to disassemble and noticed it wasn't at stock settings,so i hosed down the grim, shimmed properly,greased bushing. went to reassemble and used the A-2 setting. first time i wrapped the spring it seemed too easy to open the clutch and when i fitted the belt it was obvious it needed more twist. so back to the vise it is to wrap over the next ramp. threw it back on for a test. alls i can say is what a big difference it made. seems to up-shift great and back-shift as well. now it more reminds me of riding a yz 250 dirt-bike!!!!!! it almost seems like it could use a taller top gear in the case to get the speed up. i have 18/31 now

seems like im over rpm after assembly of my secondary. first time i assembled it i hooked the spring in (A) and (2) on the helix and wound counterclockwise and it was way to easy to open so i loosened the helix so i could wind over the next ramp. is it possible i have this wound too much? it take quite a bit to open. i tried comparing it to my other secondary and its hard to tell. if i loosen it it gonna pull the belt down too fast correct?

well seems i had it clocked too tight. honest mistake i guess.i blame it on being a first timer! seemed like it was too easy to open so that's why i went over the other ramp. worth noting is the spring that came in the 88r secondary is pink and psi calls for white. got lucky and tore the stock secondary down and that one was white. so its back together correctly this time. now just waiting on new ramps that will be here in the next day. hopefully with the a-2 setting and being correctly assembled with correct spring my rpm will be on target.
