After searching the web I still can't figure out how to decode my VIN number. Everything I've come across is for decoding a 17 digit code where as my sled (2001 SXR) has a 9 digit code (starts with 8CH) on the tunnel.
From what I have gathered Yamaha ran the 9 digit codes until 2003 and swapped to the standard 17 code then. Yamaha-motor.com didn't seem to carry any listed info to help me short of making a phone call to them which may be the next step if I can't find info anywhere online.
With the lack of snow locally I have TOO much time on my hands and just trying to get to know my sled a little better.
Anyone have any helpful info to pass on or leads to where to continue my search? Anything help is appreciated, Thanks

There's not much to decode on the 9 digit vins, 8CH is the prefix that covers the sled model (SX/SXR 700's 1997-2001). The numbers that follow are consecutive unit numbers.
There is a chart on here somewhere I think. No snow? I don't know where Fox Valley is but we got a bunch here. Snowed for 24 hours and the wind.

I'm in Oshkosh. Here north to Appleton is considered the Fox Valley. After the system came through yesterday I'd say we have maybe 2-3" now. Blowing has caused most of it to drift but may be enough to get it out on Winnebago for some lake riding.
