All,
I have a 2003 Viper 700 with less than 2K miles, love the sled and want to keep it going in top form as long as I can. My question is are there any hidden gotcha's with the sled that I should know about so I can do proactive maintenance. For instance are there any bearings that do not have zerk fitting or just generally wear out that I should plan on replacing before they fail. Since doesn't look like Yamaha is going to make a 2 stroke sled again or if they do not anything coming soon I really want to make this sled last. I love 2 strokes and love Yamaha's so looking to keep this sled going and looking to pick up 2004 Viper next season. While I am asking for advice, any other advice on keeping sled reliable or performance improvements would also be welcome. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on my viper.
Regards
Joe

Annual maintenance
Clean carbs
Clean and adjust power valves (maybe more often depending on mileage)
Clean clutches and replace any worn items
Clean inspect and repack the 2 left side shaft bearings and wheel bearings
Inspect chain case bearings. Change fluid.
Check suspension bushings and components especially w arm
This is the basic must do list in my opinion. You can get deeper into things if you like working on them. How to's on all this stuff can be found here with a search. Key things with the Vipers to keep them going are raising the needles in the carbs. Addressing the cooling system and proper summer storage. Again all that info is here with a search.
