my title should say it all, sled runs amazing, great idle and has a ton of low end power. the sled is new to me this season and I assume it should do better than 67 mph on packed trails. the rpms will hold at 8000 at full throttle. I have had the track off the ground in my garage and can spin the track well over 100mph. I upgraded to a 1 1/4 kimpex track before riding with the stock .75" Yamaha track.
the new track does not touch or bind anywhere in the tunnel.
is this all the sled will do or am I having a clutching issue?
thanks

should do more, when I had my old 72 Pantera 440 FA,I was hitting 75 (no suspension to speak of),but that was a light sled as well.On my 600 SXR with the 144" track I am getting to about 87 mph on packed spots..

ok thanks. does anyone know how fast a stock Yamaha vmax 500 is supposed to go?
1995 500 with stock track would hit 70-75 mph rather easily on a good packed surface, and work its way up to 80+. High of about 90 on a very long well plowed/packed road, but took its time getting there. These and are speedometer speeds, not GPS or radar gun, so actual speed would be a bit lower.
If your engine is stock, it is over reving at 8000, Yamaha calls for 7650. I'd give the clutches a good servicing, make sure the belt is in good shape and not worn below spec and if it does have some wear make sure the secondary is adjusted for it if needed, and also service the chaincase and verify gearing.

cool thanks, belt is new. I think I will get a rebuild kit for the primary since I don't know when it was last done.
Twins had problem with clutches wearing out faster than triples. Maybe a clutch binding?
yep check your rollers .. probably shot!

also check all the bearings in the skid, behind the secondary and spedo pickup as that will rob power as well.

Had both primary and secondary clutches rebuilt, very expensive. Got it up to 80 mph on perfect trails.
