Just bought a Digatron 4 window set-up for my 99 Mountain max 700. I need to know how far down from exhaust manifold to mount probes on Factory Yamaha Race triple pipes? I asked Digatron they say it differs with each pipe Mfg. Just want to get it right when your drilling a hole in some pretty nice pipes.

They are Factory Yamaha Racing pipes, GYT, and they are the good ones. According to Digatron there is a sweet spot in each pipe for the best place to install. Im wondering if I can just get it close by what everyone else is running or not?
I think power inc pipes look similar, are they a copy of the factory pipe? If someone knows anything about the Yamaha Racing pipes,I sure would be curious to know the specs and any other info, history.

Can you post a pic? The power inc end dumps were "gyt" for a couple years and they switched another brand...to maybe bender? Can't remember. Who knows what a factory race sled had...

pipe identification

100_1985.jpg100_1982.jpg Here is pic of pipes, didn't have a side view handy. They have a "Y" stamped on each pipe. I was told by some Factory Yamaha riders I raced against that these were the good ones?

I was thinking that 2" measurement was what I read somewhere, too.

Those are for sure power inc. These came from PI with the bungs welded on for the egt probes as an option

They measure 1-1/4" on center from the end of the manifolds. Where the pipe goes into the manifold.

Weird thing is, we have two sx's running PI pipes and the other sled has the bungs welded further away from the motor than these. I'm thinking the other sleds were added by someone other than the manufacturer because they don't look as good. The other sled is up north so I'm looking at an old pic.

I placed the probes on my stock SRX pipes about 6" from the piston skirt and they read high.

j5ferry1's probes appear much closer to the piston.

Regardless of where you put it, you'll still need to calibrate the displayed temp to a plug/piston wash reading.

Exactly. I don't really think it matters where they are pleased as long as they are the same. You'll still have to establish a baseline. Just out of curiosity what kind of temps are you seeing? Interested how much higher they read.

I've seen them as high as 1380F during a long pull.
