Hi im New to this sport and picked up a 1998 srx700. The sled has 8800 miles and receipts that it was rebuilt within500 miles but nearly 3 years ago. The sled starts 4-5 pulls when in the 0 degree garage for a few days and starts 1 pull when warm. Each cylinder has good compression and runs at roughly the same temp. I put brand new plugs in twice and it still only does 65 mph wether in powder or on tracks how ever with the track off the ground it will easily show 100 plus mph. Am I looking at a clutch issue motor or? Any help would be appreciated the sled seems to have decent speed but my buddies viper smokes it out of the hole and mine wont go over 60 thanksq

Also the sled idles good and seems responsive. It has vforce reeds and the clutch says bender and it has a brand new picked track once again thank you
what rpm does the engine run at at your topspeed of 60mph?

I didn't look to be exact but I believs around 8500 ill check for sure this weekend

I had it out today the tach goes to 7500 if you peg it then drops to 7200 and carries 60-65 mph I was able to get above 70 mph on a slight downhill ice road. I felt the pipes after running it hard and my left cylinder pipe seemed warmer then the other two
likely a combo of what I am gonna list but heres likely whats wrong:
1.) powervalves are pulled thru,meaning the cable has pulled thru the valve ends.
2.) helix is wound too loose on the rear clutch.
3.) really bad clutch set up in it.
I see your from PA, what part??/. If you are unsure and or new to how these sleds work I am located on the Ohio/pa line.

Okay thanks I live in Somerset I can be in Ohio from route 70 or 76/79 in an hour and half if I cant get it ill get back to you

mr viper, what all work do you do? I saw on here you do porting and such. Do you own a machine shop? Only yamahas?

I have a motor that needs to be rebuilt. I could do it but i'd like some mods done. Maybe sometime I could ship it to you? I'd have to wait a little as I tapped into my emergency fund for parts and such.
