Hi everyone, was a member of ty4stroke for sometime. Ended up losing my job and had to sell my sled, but I missed the sport and I'm trying to get back on a sled cheap. I found a 1999 SX700R on a 06 2 place trailer for $1000. The only thing is the sled has high miles, 14,000. The sled looks nice, no leaks anywhere. The guy who is selling it says he got it from the original orner and it is northen ( nice flat trails ) miles. He doesn't know if it has ever had a rebuild and he has put 4k trouble free miles on it. I'm just looking for something I can ride out the rest of the season on and then rebuild in the summer. So what are these motors good for? Is this a bomb waiting to go off?
As long as it was taken care of the miles shouldn't be a big deal, Look it over real good and take it for a ride, check the compression in all 3 cylinders. Then be the judge of it. Good luck

You could pull it apart to put new rings on to freshen up top end. If there's no piston scuff you can reuse them. With that kind of miles new reed petals probably wouldn't be a bad idea incase the ones in there are chipped or just getting lazy from age. The redhead motor is bulletproof, and with pipes will make around 145hp. Stock it'll go forever. If it was jetted by the dealer by the charts at setup it will be safely rich.
I've got over 20000 miles on my 97, never had the crank out, had to replace one jug and pston and of course put rings in her but its been unbelieveable for years! buy with confidence!

Buy it, clean carbs, check secondary and track drive bearing on the clutch side, chain tension. Do the top end and crank seals this summer, Check reeds and reed cages dismantle chaincase, check chain, check skid frame dismantle check clean clutches.
A couple of bucks

$1000 w/ a trailer!!!! You better get it while the gittins good. Great price and great sled!
14,000 miles isn't a worry on a redhead.

Around 21000 on my 97. factory engine never opened (besides head). For a grand you could buy a whole new or completely rebuild that one and still come out with a good deal. Heck i know an old feller near me that has over 40000km on his mountainmax that he tows a wood trailer with (unknown engine repairs if any)

Wow!!!!!! I guess for 700.00 I got a helluva deal just had to put a 50.00 impeller and seal in it 3233 miles just breaking in! Wooo hooo!
I ended up passing on the sled, guy I use to work with asked if I wanted his 05 skidoo mxz 600 sdi for $1300, not really brand loyal, and this sled is piped, just rebuilt the motor and is real clean, and couldn't beat it for the price. I may actually still pick that 700 up, as I need a trailer, and the wife needs to ride something.

wow ,those sleds are going for a minimum of 1800.00 in running cond. where I live. I bought a 2000 sxr 700 a few seasons ago and it's been great. Good on fuel and oil too. I have a 500 sx and its not half the sled as the 700. Fuel and oil pig as well. buy it.
