I removed and cleaned the carbs on my 2000 sxr 700. Since then it struggles around 6000 RPM. When you get past 6000 shes back to full power. It's not a complete bog ,it just starts to choke a little. Im thinking its the air pilot screw adjustment. I set them at 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. I've read some guys like them at 1 3/4. Other then the 6000 issue ,its running great.
Thanks

Those are actually fuel screws, so turning them in is making it leaner.

1 1/2 is the initial setting, it's a guideline. That's why it's adjustable.

Does anyone else have something to add? I know they're adjustable.

I've read of adjustments out to 1 & 7/8ths.

So it runs perfect below and above 6000? If it was 6000 on up I would suspect loose main jet... maybe or something in the needles... what where your fuel screw setting when you took them off to clean?

All screws were 1 1/2 turns out except for the clutch side carb .it was 1 turn out. I set them all at 1 1/2. I dont know if someone set that carb at 1 turn on purpose.I guess I'll have to take them off again.

Good point. It does it usually under load ,like when I'm cutting through powder. On hard pack its not so evident. I'd say the throttle would be half way when she starts having trouble. Could this be the mid range burble on the redheads that I keep reading about?

Hard to say without being there but it certainly could be. Do you have reed spacers on it now? Or a notched reed stopper? I just finished working on a buddies red head and he complains about a burble at approx half throttle especially if he holds it at half throttle for any length of time then gets on it. He doesn't have reed spacers.

Are you recommending reed spacers? Sounds like your buddy has the same problem. I'll check out the reeds and pull the carbs apart again and see how she goes. Thanks

I absolutely am recommending reed spacers. they are around 6mm thick and help even out the flow across the intake face at the case. you'll get better throttle response for certain. good time to check your reeds while you are in there...... if you have any corners chipped, cracks of if they aren't sitting against the cage replace them.
