went out for a tour tonight with my daughter following . Slow ride 60kmph. just put on a new belt last night. i give it a crack and all i heard was a loud ping. belt is fine. primary is cycling . with the belt off i can free wheel the secondary back and forth with ease and can hear the chain moving in the case. Just got home and any pointers would be great. The old dependable phazer did its jobs again on the tow strap. wow. that viper is a heavy pig!!!

Broken Secondary Spring?? or does the secondary just spin and not turn the track?

secondary will spin but no track movement
If you spin the secondary and can hear the chain moving in the chaincase and see the brake rotor turning, you either have something broken inside the chaincase or your axle shaft is broken. You can tip the sled on its side and check the axle shaft, and you can try adjusting the chain tension. If you had the chain tension adjusted properly before and now if its loose, you have something broke in there. Even if you didn't have the chain tension adjusted properly, but you have to thread the adjuster bolt way into the housing, something is still awry in there. Best to pull the chaincase cover and check it out.

thanks i will check it tomorrow alot of filings on the dip stick
I'll guess a broken lower bearing allowing the chain to slip around the bottom gear is what you hear, and created the filings.
