I've heard three different theories about jetting an SRX ..... (1) jet PTO fat because of clutch heat ... (2) jet Center fat because it gets heat from bothe sides ... (3) jet Mag side fat due to exh pipe heat ... Who is right and why ? Or are there any other theories? Timing change due to crank deflection ? Timing curve different between cylinders?

the 98-99 srx uses the fatter or bigger main jet on the mag side cylinder. The 2000-02 uses the larger jet on the pto cylinder. The ignition system is the reason the 98-99 uses the jetting this way the mag cylinder is closest to the stator and the all 3 cylinders spark at 1 time.
The 2000-02 uses a 3d ignition system and only fires the spark plug for the firing cylinder and not wasting the spark like the previous system did.
what your describing is staggered jetting, nothing wrong in doing that its just its really not needed unless the engine is modded and say the set of aftermarket pipes is designed to run over top of say the mag cylinder, that cylinder might require slightly more jet due to the added heat of the pipe being over it, lots of examples of what you can do to jet.Youll find in a stock setting or with factory pipes it wont be needed.

Seems like a good thread to ask this question...why did Yamaha Jet one way in 2000, slightly richer in 2001 and then go back to 2000 jetting in 2002? I'm assuming '01 was to eliminate a lean condition and in '02 the DCS handled the issue but I want to hear what you experts have to say.
Second question; I have an '01 and it runs awesome with stock jetting. I'm looking at buying a 2000 with only 3K miles. Once I get it and go through the carbs, should I jet according to 2000 specs, change to 2001 specs that I know work or are they both fine for northern lower peninsula trail riding (I prefer to ride quick out of turns and fast when the trail straightens out) and the occasional weekend of lake runs?

You answered your first question. I run 01 jetting in my 00, seems to work good that way but on the warm days it is a little sluggish. If you don't plan on riding in really cold temps 00 jetting would be fine.

a few of the 00 srx,s had some issues on long long pulls on a lake w/o . the 2001 jetting was increased and most 2000 owners probably with recommendation if ya had a good dealer were updated. the 2002 went back to 2000 jet spec because of the dcs. 3:16x (yammie tony)

What's a 99 run for jetting and is it ok?

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but i just bought a 2000 srx with only 1200 miles on it. Would it be worth it to pull the carbs to check the jets and change them to the 01 size if they aren't already?

I would pull them and confirm jet size and cleanliness, if I just bought any sled, powervalves also. You can leave the pipes on if you have or cut an allen wrench for the bottom one all the way towards the stator then use a box end wrench on the short end of the allen wrench.
