Ive posted on this forum over the past 3 years about an issue thats been happening on my sled for some time.. getting worse as time went on. what started out as intermittent top end issue became sled falling on its face (would wind up to 105 and if i continue to hold would slowly drop speed) on hard pack, also became an issue trying to floor it in deep powder (in powder it felt like my belt was over-shifting and loading up the engine).
I think I have finally found the issue!!!
I decided to buy a used viper fuel pump and change it out to eliminate that as an issue. I took the pulse line off the SXR pump to transfer it since the viper one is too short. When I blew on the line to check the 1-way valve it sealed as it should. When I sucked in i got a mouth full of oil/fuel. I suspect my pump has a small tear in it that has been fulling some fuel/oil into the crank. Could also explain why my fuel consumption has been pretty bad too. Thought it was my clutches, but everything is super clean, and in great shape no flat spots etc.
Once i get this thing running I'll mark both clutches with a sharpie. How far should the sharpie be erased on a top end run?
Anyone else have to chase ghosts like this???
I am putting everything together now with new jackshaft, bearings, fuel pump and hoses...
WE'll see how it does tomorrow!

Keeping fingers crossed. Just curious , is there any difference between the sxr & viper pumps?

intermittent top end loss fixed, now a slight vibration
2001 and new SRX and viper fuel pumps have a bypass hose the runs across the top. I can confirm that it functions perfectly well and fits in Sxr sleds. That hose may be for better mixing of oil and fuel not sure? I am sure there was a good reason Yamaha engineers added it to its highest performance line.
You will have a very tight fit with your airbox be used is contacts the upper hose.
