Got to race a mxz 700 yesterday. We were side by side at about 40mph or so and then got on it. I barely inched passed him for a little bit then we ran out of room. Then we went from a stop. I think he thought he was going to show me something since it was pretty close when we went the first time but I knew from a stop it would be a different story. Anyway we ran for probably a half mile or so and I looked back and I was way ahead of him. His sled is not very well maintained and he has about 100 pounds on me but I don't think even if it was brand new it would be close. He told me over the summer if his was back in spec that I would not be faster than him. I did not talk about it after we ran cause he probably would have taken it the wrong way. He wants to get a newer 800 so maybe I will wait to rub it in till he gets one and sees how fast a srx really is.lol I just want to have fun and racing someone is fun.
Good to hear.
A well set up MXZ 700 should stick close for awhile, but just doesn't have the top end as yours. And it's been my experience that the 800 doesn't either.

I find the 800 guys Doo or Cat that are familiar with an SRX do everthing in their power to avoid racing if there's enough lake or field for the SRX to shine .

Ya I know another guy that has a newer 800 doo and he thinks I am crazy if I think I can keep up with him. He thinks because it pulls the skis off the ground that means its faster. I have mine set up perfect with the skis just touching enough to be able to guide me if I start veering a little. Over the summer he said there is no way. He said his 600 skidoo (07 I think) was beating a srx. I just said maybe but that's not my srx. He laughed. I am hoping to get a chance at him this year

The sled with the least CCs should have say on the place to race. After all, he is at a disadvantage.I find the 800 guys Doo or Cat that are familiar with an SRX do everthing in their power to avoid racing if there's enough lake or field for the SRX to shine .

Love the racing stories. Theres something up with those ski-doos. Wrong setup? Unmaintained? That guy I was riding with thought his was very fast. We didn't race but traded and It ran good and quiet but very low on power and uncomforable. It had such a bad darting problem that when you let up on the gas, you would almost fly off the trail, Almost like it was chain instead of belt. It felt like the seat was higher then the handlebars. I don't know if there all like that? This was an 08 MXZ. (Looked like a bumblebee)

I think its all about sales with the doos. All the guys I know that have them like them just because they think they are the best. I am pretty sure they couldn't tell you why. They just think that so that's how it is. Definitely setup is huge. I have found differences in places where most people would never look. I changed a simple donut gasket that was leaking and now my rpms are about 100 more than they were. I will adjust for that later since there is not much riding left and I plan on changing a bunch of stuff this summer anyway. Thanks to this site I understand why on things more than when someone talks crap about something when they have no idea what they are talking about.

I think all brands could be monsters but maybe there isn't any good dedicated forums like this for them. I would think a ski-doo mxz 800 should easily beat a 13-17 year old srx. Then again, I dont think in 10 years there is going to be 200mph sleds out of the box. I guess you can only go so fast. I also notice that many, not all,ppl who buy new or very new sleds never open the hood. There is another jamboree and I bet most of the new sleds look terrible. I will be prepared with gopro for races and camers for taking pics of very neglected new sleds.
