I'm looking at a 2002 SRX and a 2002 Vipers. I'd be interested in pros and cons of each model. Which one would be a better trail machine and why? I sure this has been discussed elsewhere but I'd like more current info on these older machines. They have 3 to 5K miles and prices seem ok at $2000 to $2800. I have an old trailer and would like to get 2 machines so I have a backup. I know these are 13 years old, and need some tlc, but I'm a fair mechanic and have no fear when attempting repairs. Thanx

Buy whichever is in better condition. They're similar. Personally I like the Viper because of the single exhaust (lighter weigh and easier to maintain). The viper also has more suspension travel.

SRX is faster, sure, but why you even need the 120hp Viper on a trail is beyond me. Its fast.

Viper is more trail friendly then srx. but srx is just so damn cool. A single pipe sled like the viper is ALOT easier to work on the a sled with triple pipes. Both great sleds. I agree pick the one that's in better shape.

If you are getting 2 then get one of each, then after a year or two of experience with them, sell the one you least like and buy another of the one you are happy with. I personally like the SRX better, amazing power out of the box and so easy to add even more power, RELIABLY, with a little port work by Mr Viper (member on this site). SRX suspension is terrible from the factory, but you can change out the skid to something more forgiving and have a great ride!

I am going to swap my skid soon. I don't know where they get 8" of travel but. I just stuck some money in mine also. I get sore after riding it. In fact, I was looking at one on ebay and went back and forth with offers he made a counter offer that seems fair, I think I'll take it.
