Why does this sled backfire when it is cold the sled only has 3000kms on it the carbs are clean I just done that yesterday started it today and backfireing when it is warm its fine any suggestions. Thanks

Do you know how to bypass the TORS?? May want to try that to help eliminate one thing. Need more details from you.

You say you went through the carbs, is your throttle freeplay to tight this would also make the TORS act up.

hey Blue.
I have a 2003 VMax 600 and it does the same thing when clod or first started. If you hit the throttle before she is good and warm...pow..it will backfire.
Open the choke full toi start then when she starts go mid position on the choke....then close the choke and let it warm up. You should not have any backfiring.

Mine does the exact same thing on a 99 600sx. I just cleaned the carbs too. Its done it sense I had it. I even richend up the pilots last time to help it out to no luck. I have read that there gets to be a thin film on the pilots that does not come off while cleaning that can cause this. Its my wifes sled so I don't really worry about it. I she likes to let the handwarmers warm up before she rides so by then its warm engouh not to bog/backfire. But next year when I clean the carbs I'm going to try new pilots. JW

From my experience it's just the nature of the beast. Seems all of my Yamahas are cold blooded, sleds and bikes. Try to run 'em cold and they hiccup, cough and stumble, let 'em warm up first, no problem. I just start 'em up on the trailer, get my gear on and ready, load up the water bottles, then pull them off the trailer and ride.
