I have a 1997 Venture 600 with the factory skid.

I was cleaning the sled and noticed that I can raise the rear of the snowmobile by using the lower bolt pattern for the rear skid.

I am wondering why there is this option. It affects how high the rear sits but won't change the travel of the skid.

If I lower the skid (raise the rear) what other adjustments will I need to make?

yamaha's theory on the optional mount holes was to get the running boards a bit higher out of the snow to increase the sleds ability to to travel in deeper snow.

worst case you will have to reduce the front ski shock preload to compensate for the "tilt" of the sled. sometimes a fine tune of the limiter straps along with the front skid shock preload will enhance your ride.

Thanks for the reply, I went and raised the sled, and I am really happy with the added height.
