Yamaha SRR?

Maybe I have it backwards.

no rrs's either. that would be the reverse of your original query that you think you have backwards.

yamaha made a limited edition race sled back in 1978 with the moniker SSR. limited build and having a trailing arm front suspension. very rare. they had to produce enough sleds to make them publicly available as to have them make the classes for racing. not unlike limited builds from the big three automakers in the early nascar days. rules is rules and money is king.

this sled has been discussed a bit here on the ty forums. do a search.

this is the 1978 yamaha ssr 440 oval race sled.

That thing is neat! I overheard something about them while they were setting up for a jamboree and looked who was talking about them and it was the guy with the worlds fastest srx. One he said that there were only 12 built, my BS meter was tingling. I had the letters mixed up. So he was off by the amount produced and there was a such sled. Starting to think hes not a big of bs'r as I thought. Still have yet to see this srx of his. I hear a lot about it not just from him.

I'm pretty sure there really was about a dozen made because they were just made for the factory race team. The Ssrs still got destroyed by the polaris rxl's

I've read that same thing different times, that while the chassis was better than the SRX one it replaced it still didn't measure up to the RXL Polaris. It's a shame too because those SSRs are wicked looking sleds.

WOW!
I'd like to join that forum someday. I love vintage sleds. I was watching a resto on youtube of a snow cruiser(I think thats what it was)OMC.
My oldest sled was a 68 Rupp GT300 and it actually got stolen many years ago. It was the first sled I ever bought. Electric start too. I also had a 70 Evinrude Bobcat 25. That one was scarey to ride, more so then the Rupp. I still have the John Deere and will never get rid of it. I want to get my sig pic remade from the original pic(I just scanned it).
I guess there is quite a bit of interest in the SSR. That one for sale on ebay is probably the same one I saw on youtube.
