Guys, I'm painting an SRX hood that is good condition. Any suggestions on prepping the hood and painting it? I need to sand and fill one small gauge. anything in particular I should do or be concerned of? I am going mix up the Yamaha blue paint code listed in the tech section and have it sprayed. Obviously sand and prime first. What grit should leave it with before priming? If this one turns out well I am going to do another one I have in black or white metalic flake.

Repair only the damage and let the guy doing the paint do the rest.He will wet sand the clear around the area tint the paint to match and blend it in then clear coat farther back then buff to clean up.
Agree with above...and maybe you can save the decals, as some of them are no longer available.

I noticed 1 year srx decals are very hard to come by. I did my left side myself and I finish sanded the primer with 400 before paint. It turned out ok for my first sled hood repair. The part I screwed up on is not letting the clear cure more before wetsanding and buffing (there was a big snowstorm on the way and we ended up with an inch). It actually started melting the clear and that was with an orbital buffer. I could barely save my registration decal. I would check decal availability right away and order them. I think most parts houses get them from all over the country before shipping them to you. I ordered mine from yamaha sports plaza. I can't find the early stage pics. This is rattle canned. I use my spray gun for parts and stuff but not experienced enough for using it for this kind of job. These things sand fast so make sure you use a 3M rubber sanding pad so you don't make any uneven spots.

If the repair has to be done around a decal shure it has to come off but as in most cases it is not needed to remove them at all.The clearcoat has to be sanded wet with 1500 grit and a adhishion promoter applyied over the decal so the clear will stick to them and not run.Dont use primer anywear but the damaged area for best resalts. It will pop like this and make any artic cat paint job look like crap when you pull up to them.O and this is not with any buffing at all.

Holy shine! Those are one of the hard to find decals. Its like they have only one side of hood or something. Thats probably why mine has 02 decals.
