I have a 2003 Viper 700 with pipes & recently when I start it cold it will backfire once.I did replace 1 fouled out plug on the PTO side but still back fires one or 2 times..The sled seems to run ok & has plenty of power. Any ideas ?

Check for good spark. There Could be rust on your mag or an assortment of other issues. A Plug wire or cap could be intermittent or a rubbed through wire some where. You can Check your crank phase too. Start on one side of your motor and get piston to top dead centre. You can put something like a wooden dowl or a screw driver in the plug hole and turn the motor over BY HAND USING THE CLUTCH until TDC is reached. Now put a mark on the clutch at the very top of the sheave. Do this with each piston and then take a soft measuring tape and measure between each clutch mark. They should all measure the same. If not...your crank could be out of phase. This is not likely your trouble but try it it takes 5 minutes.

A wiring short/"rub through" can cause some nasty back firing.
