Hi
I am looking for info on rebuilding the engine in 81 Exciter 440. The crank seal leaked and i have a hole in a piston. Its been sitting for quite a while and decided to fix it or get rid of it. It has about 1800 KM on it
Anyone know the max over bore you can do on it. I am thinking about .20 I am also going to replace everything piston related including wrist pins as well keep an eye out for an old Aaen muffler.
Any suggestions on what else to do to it when it is all apart for preventive maintenance. I am mostly looking for reliability not as much performance as I can get out of it.
Thanks
John

Maximum bore will be dictated by the available oversize pistons. Do the cylinders NEED to bored?? Are they scored up or wore out of spec?? If not, then there is no reason to bore it. If it does ,in fact need to be bored, go to the smallest bore size needed to clean up the slop only. Boring a 2 stroke doesnt give you any kind of performance gain over stock bore unless you go waaaayyy bigger and build something beyond the orginal parameters of the existing engine. Only bore the cylinders if you absolutley have to.
