I am installing a 136 mono skid in my srx. I just found out the upper wheels are mounted in a different location than the arm on the suspension. I searched and found I can cut the arm down and use the proaction shaft or I can move the wheels back. Which one would be the better way?

I cut the arm and used the stock SRX shaft & wheels in the mono arm.

Did you take the plastic protectors off the arm. I see the 121 apex arm does not have them.

Are you talking about the black & white slides for the track? If so, no.
I took the bushings out, cut the arm, reinstalled the bushings with the SRX shaft/wheels and installed it.

Yep. That's what I was talking about. Thanks. Getting ready to cut it down.

I cut the arm down and put the suspension in last night. Went to tighten the track and it wouldn't tighten up all the way. It was almost there and then ran out of adjustment. I think moving the top wheels forward and the fact I have 8 tooth drivers was too much for the adjustment. Or the track is stretched which I have no idea since it is a used track. It looks fairly new. But anyway, I am moving the upper wheels back and I will try again later today.

you cant just move the upper rear arm back. You need to mount both arms back to install the mono this way.

Sorry, I am not good at explaining things. I will be moving just the upper idler wheels back to where they are actually supposed to be. I will have to make spacers for the arm on the mono since I cut it off and it will be in its correct position. I went back and forth all day yesterday trying to decide if I should cut the arm and mount the upper wheels like they are on the 121" or to drill 2 more holes in the tunnel to put them where they are on a 136". I got this from another thread on a 136 install. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/...The-snake-goes-mono/page3?highlight=mono+wide Am I correct in doing it this way?you cant just move the upper rear arm back. The mono shaft/wheels are mounted down & back from the existing shaft, this puts it below the tunnel.
Did you use the SRX wheels?

I went with the dimensions from JDViper's thread when he installed a mono. I should have it in later tonight. I am using the srx wheels. Do you have stock 9 tooth drivers? I think the 8 tooth is why it would not tighten all the way. Both moving the wheels forward (from where they are supposed to be on a 136") and the 8 tooth drivers give the track a lot more slack. I think both together was too much. It wouldn't have taken much more to get it tight. I am going to guess 1/8-1/4" more adjustment would have done it. If I would have known I would have mounted the whole skid back a half inch or so. I like to learn the hard way anyway.lol

Maybe a larger diameter carrier wheels would fix this so you don't have to make new holes if your that close?
