SpartaSRX made some carb and suspension adjustments on my VMax for me last week, and I hadn't been able to ride it since. So I headed up to his place in Sparta to ride the fields behind his house. Was tearing around one of the fields with his son when I crested a hill to find a deer!! Relax, it was dead, but I ran the damn thing over at about 80 mph!! Scared the #$%&* out of me!!! Looked like it had been poached... bullet hole in it... and it was on top of the snow... it snowed last Saturday so it had to have been killed since then. Good thing it was a doe, I ran right over the head and neck... a good rack would probably have done some damage for sure!! Can you imagine what deer antlers could do to a belly pan or track???

Oh well. The sled runs better and rides better now. Thanks Pat!!

Well lucky you didnt get hurt running over the deer, but even if it was a buck with antlers, its out of season and the deer already lost there antlers ;)! yeah, alot of people poach deer out of season, its a shame :ORC

how about hitting a deer. Guy I ride with got hit/or hit a deer (depends on how you look at it) twice in the past couple of years. Once at the end of 2002, and once in the beginning of 2003. Both times ended up in the hospital with chest and upperbody injuries. Now that is really bad luck. Also, on the ride this weekend, he wasn't leading for more than 5 minutes, (I'm second in the pack) and he had 2 deer cross about 50-75 feet in front of him. It was sick, but I actually got a chuckle out of it, being that is just his luck

We have moose stomping around on our trails...extremely dangerous. There have been a few people killed hitting moose on sleds. I almost plowed into two of them on the trail a couple of years ago.

I hope you reported that dead deer to the CO's.

Me And Mt Friend Chris Were Ripping Up A Field And A Deer Jumped Out Of A Hedge Row Right Over The Top Of Me Or Depending On How You Look At It I Went Under Him, And I Never Knew A Thing Til Chris Told Me What He Saw And Simpily Couldnt Beleive It,but Its True I Was Barrel 85 Mph Down The Field Parallel To The Hedge And The Damn Deer Got Spook And Leap Out Of The Hedge Right Over The Top Of Me And Was Long Gone....

I've come close twice to hitting or being hit by deer in the UP. "I was driving along, minding my own bidness" the first time near Baraga at night railing at a very fast pace, next thing I know there is a deer standing in the middle of trail. I was second in line but very close to the lead sled. The deer never moved (thank god) and we split it. Leader went to the right and I went to the left. That could of hurt. The second time was near Watersmeet. Again railing at a very fast pace but this time I was the lead sled. I did see the deer coming out of the woods from the left side of trail. I had to move to the side the deer came from or I would have hit it for sure. I had to stop and clean my pants. My bro said, "did that deer go between you guys?" I said, "no it was about 2 feet from my helmet." I'm glad they were just close encounters.

not that I dont believe you guys, I do, but I have a friend that has a story about a moose.
A couple years ago in revelstoke, we were going up the trail, I went ahead and was waiting for them to get caught up, buddy said that there was a moose on the trail, trotting up the trail, not letting anyone go by. Later on, the story got to the point that guys blew by the moose, one at a time, and now he is saying that he shot right through, under the mooses legs.
Next year, he will say that the Moose was actually a quartet of them, and he had to jump over them to get by.

LOL, thats good stuff KBX. I have had A TON of deer cross in front of me this year while leading up in the U.P, seems like a lot more than other years.

Harvest numbers are down this year. And with a relatively mild winter. There should be alot more next year. Be safe.
