I have a 97 700 SX that was heavily modified. It also had installed an Arctic Cat secondary clutch. Long story short, my brother let some friends borrow my sled and they took it back to stock. All but the clutching. Ran the sled, broke the belt and didn't keep it so we have no idea what numbers were on it. Does anyone have any suggestions what belt I could be needing? I'm fairly certain the primary is stock.

I have no idea if it used the stock belt or not. I assumed it used an Arctic Cat belt since it used an Arctic Cat secondary.

dont know if it works with the cat secondary but its a yamaha primary right? I imagine no difference. What cat is the secondary off of? Look up the belt for that also. Not sure if you have a aftermarket powersports store but you could have them pull the aftermarket yamaha belt for primary and belt for cat secondary and compare?

put on the 8DN belt and set the cat secondary for proper belt deflection. depending on what year secondary they had re-splined to fit the yamaha shaft, the deflection should be the same, bottom of cogs even with top of sheaves.

jump over to arcticchat.com for setting the secondary.

Ok, first off, yes I do believe it is the stock primary. I do not have a local Yamaha dealer near me though. They all went out of business in recent years. Nothing close by.

I do not think the Cat and Yam secondaries are the same circumference but I honestly don't know for sure.

What is the 8DN belt off of? The Yamaha shaft wasn't re-splined to fit the secondary. It was completely replaced because the Cat uses a key and not splines (or so I've been told).

I have no idea what model Cat that secondary is off of.

Sorry, I'm not much help...

Wow, ok I just tracked down a guy that used to work for RPC that did the mods back in the day and he said off the top of his head it was an 1108 belt. That ring a bell?

1108 is a ski doo belt with very similar dimensions to the yamaha 8DN. the 8DN was found on most yamaha 2 strokes 98 and up. that 1108 is a dayco belt with a little softer compound rubber. they hook good but wear fast. good for straight lines, not so much for the all around, but that is an opinion.

depending on what cat secondary it is, you can adjust it to run properly. simply measure the diameter of the sheave and post up what it measures and we can take it from there.
