I have a 700 sx all stock other than have v-force reeds, and turks 8ca clutch set up in it. The sled really pulls hard and is a blast to trail ride, also good fuel econ. I was thinking of doing the case tunnel porting, cyl. skirt mod, holeing the piston skirts, polishing the exhaust port and opening up the puny side exhaust ports. I want to retain the stock exhaust, yes I know triple pipes are needed to make the big power, but I dont want to deal with the noise.
Does anyone have an idea how much hp I'd see with the work done and running the stock pipe?
Will the fuel economy go down the drain?
Would the porting hurt my bottom end or not?
Like I said the sled is awesome to ride, the low center of gravity makes cornering excellent, hand built carbides on plastic skis really carve, the aggressive clutching coupled with a 1" polaris track and the torqey triple redhead is a lot of fun accelerating out of the corners on the trails. I love the sled. I have lined the sled up on the lake against lots of various sleds, have beat many, this thing will stomp the crap out of the new 4stroke vipers, it isn't even close, I ride with a 2000 srx that is stock and from a dead stop I can pull at least 3 lengths on him and it isn't until probally 1000 feet before he can reel me in and pass. A couple weeks ago I lined it up up on the lake with some big guns, 2 800 revs, a 1200 ski doo 4 stroke, a 800 rush, I outrun the new rush, but the ski-doos all beat me. Prior to racing the ski-doo guys were thinking this old yami is gunna get his *** handed to him, after racing they were thinking, god damn - glad I don't have a 600 rev, that old yamaha runs.

my sx700 was ported, reed mods, light weight brake rotor, geared and clutched and on the gun could get 116mph. The fuel mileage is almost as good as a stock Viper. Once ported I modified the head gasket to get some compression which a cheap alternative to cutting heads.
No reliability issues and certainly surprised a lot of people.

Yamyrider, was this with the stock pipe?

Yep stock single pipe. I did have bender triples in it for awhile and got close to 125mph on the gun. Those red head engines have a lot left in them from stock. Porting really wakes them up even with stock pipe
