I am shopping for an engine for my next project and am having an internal battle. My choices are limited to 600 twin, 700 triple or a 570 Exciter engine. I have been told bad things about the Exciter engine, not a lot better about the 600 and of course the 700 triple is legendary in reliability. I say 700 because if you're gonna go that route I can't see any appreciable difference in weight between the 600 and 700 triples. I'm talking red head of course. The lighter the better. But what are the weights. How much more is a 700 triple compared with a 600 twin? It's for a 79 SRX project so I'm just a little worried about the weight on leaf springs. Thanks.

I had a redhead700 crated up for shipping purposes and it weighed about 80lbs if I remember correctly that was without a clutch, reeds, manifold or mag and flywheel.

Thank-you. Anybody know what a 600 twin weighs?

Why not an srx700 engine? You've got me curious, why does it have to be that light?

Twin is only gona be a few pounds lighter. Besides... A triple in 79 srx would be so much cooler!

SRX mill is too heavy up there plus fitting pipes would be a nightmare. A single pipe 700 red head might not be too bad though. What happened was, I saw this picture and it looks like it was factory installed! That got me wondering how much more weight than the 440 the 600 was and so on, cuz if you're gonna go that far....
Nobody knows what these things weigh?

I think the difference between the twins and the triples is about 10-15 pounds, redhead being heavier. I seem to have read that somewhere, can't remember where.
