VIPER OWNERS ONLY!
I have a 2003 sxViper Mountain (stock) except for Holtzman ATACC
I get about 125km / 75miles on a full tank of premium gas riding around on 4 inches of snow covered trails & lakes.
How far does a tank of gas get you????
Am I getting real poor gas mileage
75 miles / 11.77 US gal = 6.41mpg If it is very poor what could be causing it??
Sled has 500miles on it. Just cleaned power valves & full dealer service 200 miles ago.

Non mountain 02 viper gets 100 miles before the low fuel light comes on. I think your mtn is geared down so 75 seems OK.

Those numbers both sound extremely low to me. I know you said not to say anything but viper gas mileage but my srx has gotten 200 miles on a full tank and did it pretty consistantly. I get about 150-165 right now. Our viper does the same so that seems pretty low.

That's dumping fuel...my vmax 4 750 (94) would get 11 consistatly and actually improve as the speed did.....the only way you will know is to run it on hard pack...should see 12 ish that's my guess... i was first tracks last year for a 100 miles and and had plenty of gas left on my srx...I could be wrong...just seems like a lot.. unless you were wide open the whole way...

I have a 03 Viper and I would say that I get around 100 miles per tank and that is agressive trail riding.

I would say 100 miles per tank min, on good trails i can get around 110-120 on full tank

Having a hard time believing 200 miles per tank consistently, that's about 17 miles per gallon, that's approaching 4-stroke mileage, not buying it.

don't sound bad to me. riding my rx on trail with approx. 4-6" fresh on top and i'll only get about 10 mpg thats on the gas, off and on,off and on again -you get the picture.

When I ride my sled gently and dont race it, I can get that much but thats no fun now is it. I lowered the jetting on my sled also so that will help gas mileage also. Those srx engines dont eat up fuel like other engines. You can get them to go 200 miles on a tank but not if you drive it aggressively. Like I said, normally, I get 150-165 on a single tank.

That sounds about right to me. You cannot compare at all to a non-mountain sled. The mountains are turning more track and geared lower. My sons 96 V-max 4 mountain gets 75 miles per tank---running pretty hard leading the way 50% of the time through 8" of powder. My 97 700 MM gets better but not allot---maybe 100 miles/tank.

That is low for a mountain Viper. You should get at least 9 - 10 mpg on that sled unless you are climbing and boondocking all the time.

17 miles a gallon can be done on a Viper. Did it on the long flat trail from Munising to Manistique. Buddy rides a Warrior and i had better gas mileage then him on this strech of trail.
had a friend with a 02 viper that would go 70 miles and the light would come on it ended up being the computer was bad put another in and it got over a 100 before light came on. he bought one from betheviper, check he may have another

I have went as far as 135 miles off a full tank and put back in around 8.4 gallons. That's about 16mpg.

I'll back up that 17....my friends 99 has seen 17 on several occasions with the binder clutch kit...my stock 2000 runs between 13 and 15 and have seen close to 16....I'll go a 140 miles and not even think about gas

My friend was asking me if my BAD gas mileage might be due to ATACC?!?
I don't know too much about ATACC but can't help but wonder...
One member said it could be the CDI but I can't figure how that could be, the sled runs well. No hesitations during acceleration on the trails or on the lake.
Please help me...

Just had my new 03 Viper out last weekend......first tank of gas through the sled and averaged 16 lts per 100 km! We did some groomed, ditch banging, pond running & trail breaking........Viper was about the same as 600 Switchback (144) and laughed at 600 & 500 (f) Grand Touring for mileage.

So here's the update.
Took my sled in to another Yamaha dealer, told him about the bad gas mileage and poor compression.
Said he "called around" and was told bad gas mileage is the norm for mountain Viper's and said that he got 5psi more than me on the PTO compression test so the compression is fine @105psi... 125 & 125 bullshit a new Viper should be 120, 135 & 135 then when you break it in it should stay the same or go UP...
This all the while the @!#$!#$ sled is under warranty!
SO THIS IS WHAT I THINK ABOUT YAMAHA MOTOR CO. YOUR WARRANTY IS NOT WORTH SHIT!
All these !@#$!@ dealers do is change parts, they don't know a thing about sleds and I'm sick and tired of it. I buy a new sled and if it's not set up properly the dealer just says oh well that's how they all ride.
I'm @!#$!@ sick of it every time I have a problem I end up having to figure it out myself and fix it too cause the dealer keep saying well that's "normal" warranty or no warranty it's always the same bullshit.
That's the last time I buy a new sled.
