I am hoping to get my 99 srx ported this summer. I was thinking about upgrading to the 01-02 electronics. Wondering if I would gain anything more with the porting with the better ignition system or not. Seems like it will be a good bit of money to get all the parts to do it. Too much money I think just to change the headlight and handwarmers but if I could gain a little more in performance it might be worth it. Was also leaning towards the 02 and the dcs system. Thanks in advance.
get the 01 if u do something.....not sure u will gain something .....but u will see the trail at night lolll
Performance gains? No,but you'll have wayyyy better vision at night.Your right,it is a bit of work to do and then there's the cost to consider but if your not in a huge hurry to do it you can no doubt pick up the parts here and there over the summer spreading out the cash layout and do the swap in the fall.The most costly parts are the carb rack with the TPS and the CDI,the rest you could no doubt get from a donor sled.I have a writeup in the tech section on doing this and what I used for parts.
The one thing that I will say right up front about doing the switch is about the flywheel.If your lucky enough to find a dual headlight SX-R one it will save you a lot of work,otherwise your in for either changing the crankcase for Viper or 00-02 SRX ones or taking your cases to a machine shop and having a piece of aluminum welded in because the pickup coil will need to be moved closer to allow for the smaller flywheel of the 300 watt mag.

Thanks guys. Fourbarrel, I have been looking at your writeup in the tech section. Are all the 01-02 sxrs the dual headlight? I was looking up part numbers and found the part number for the flywheel is the same for a 01-03 mountain max, 01-06 venture, and the 01-02 sxr. I plan on doing this for sure so I will be gathering parts throughout the summer. I can weld the piece on the case if I have to but would rather just find the right flywheel.

yes, that flywheel will install on a 98-99 srx base and allow you to run the 300 watt stator and electronics off it. I see ymahaa is pretty proud of the price on a new one. If you look on ebay they are on there, when you look for them make sure it has 4 magnets on the outside of it, the old one only has 3. I know how alot of things are not sold as the right sled or part they fit on ebay.

on the outside, it will have 3 long ones and 1 short one, I cant tell from the pics shown in your link but its possible, have the seller double check for you.
