Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking to start a rebuild project on my 94 VMax which was my first sled, which will probably be a very slow process. It's been beat pretty bad by the person who owned it before me, so I have quite a bit to do. So far I have the following things on my list, which I think were covered pretty well in prior forum entries:
  • change clutch to P-85
  • skid swap to an Xtra 10
  • changing of body panels
  • new front suspension bushings-http://www.ebay.com/itm/311083509190?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT ??
  • skis-http://www.royaldistributing.com/Catalogues/Main/2015-Fall-Winter/#213
  • overall cleaning
  • paint?

So I'm looking for advice on a few other topics.

I'm looking for an upgrade to the driven clutch. Is there a performance clutch or clutch from a different model that works better/weighs less?

My handlebar heaters are beat up and haven't worked since I bought the sled. Is there a cheap set of handlebar heaterswith good grips that work well that you guys would recommend? I think that there is probably something out there with better grips than OEM and would just require some splicing.

For tunnel braces, I was thinking of the braces off an Polaris XC Edge because I need some grip too. Has anyone added these to one of these older sleds? Anything cheaper is always welcome too.

For one last thing, I was considering adding a dial-a-jet from thunderproducts. Is this product worth the cost? I know they have other products like UFOs and quad flow torque wings which are supposed to help, but it seems hard to justify the cost.

I know it's a lot to throw into an old sled, but I love the thing. I'm sure you guys understand haha

Welcome to the site!!! You will find the members of theis site to be extremely friendly and knowlegable. This is one of the best sites on the web for getting help and sharing advice. Post some pictures of your sled. How many miles are on it? What is the condition of the engine? If this was my project, I'd start with the basics like giving it a good cleaning, inspection and tune-up and then move onto upgrades. i would stay away from the dial-a-jet product, just make sure you engine is in good tune, nice clean carbs, jetted properly and you'll be ahead in the long run. The issue with your bar heaters could be as simple as a bad connection, or a broken wire. Do you have an electrical multimeter for testing the electrical resistance of the heaters? The voltage being applied to the heaters?

Thanks for the welcome rx1jim-can't take any pics because the sled is in the UP until I buy house which will HOPEFULLY be pretty soon. As far as mileage goes it's kind of a mystery. It's a 500 but has a 600 hood that shows over 10,000 miles without the speedo hooked up. It's definitely seen a lot but it still has good compression. I early did a basic tune up early this season, carb cleaning, changing out the vacuum and fuel lines, spark plug change, and replaced the chaincase and driveshaft bearings, but I definitely have to go further before next season. The engine bay is dirty because of a leak from the head between the Y-pipe which I've read can be fixed by new gaskets and a high heat sealer. Before that I had the connection between the Y-pipe and the exhaust rust out so it was spewing out everywhere. I didnt realize the y pipe was rusted out until moved the exhaust and the whole thing fell in on itself. I have a lot of cleaning to do.

The handlebar heaters are getting power, but dont heat up. Either way I think I should scrap them, because they are worn down and one is broken in half.

I didnt really mess around with the carb jets, but that is definitely something I need to get on. What's a good place to replacement jets?

get a shaft and secondary from a 95-96 vmax, your 2 piece shaft is most likely shot, I have a nice Yamaha clutch loaded for that sled if you are interested.

i'm interested-pm me. Are you talking about the driveshaft? I guess I thought they were all created equal. Regarding the sprockets, is it best to stick with OEM, or is there a cheap upgrade possible?

Hey brandenj09...I am picking up an xtra10 skid to put in my 95 vmax...any suggestions. I have never done this. Thanks
