A friend of mine is selling a 2001 SRX. Several people have called and asked about title. what can be done without title work? I dont remember any of my older sleds having paperwork?

As far as I know no tittles with sleds only registration. And ya really don't need that to sell, a bill of sale is good here in Michigan.

Do you mean addressing the owners of SRXs with titles like: Mr., Sir, or Dr.?
In NY sleds don't have titles, just the state registration.

OK so my question wasnt worded properly. I think its called certificate of origin. When you buy a new sled it comes with this document. DMV requires this cert and keeps it on file in Albany NY. Then issues a registration. If you don't keep your old registrations. What to do next?

I would think a notarized bill of sale with vin number of the sled and the previous owners address, plus a copy of registration of the sled would be more then adequate.

I actually called the DNR on this awhile back. In WI at least, all you need is a bill of sale with serial number, not even the old reg. cert. Same with ATV's. They run the serial number through a database and if it comes back clean, you're golden. They also told me that I would not believe the amount of snowmobiles that are stolen never get reported to the DNR. Boats are a whole different story(I didn't want to talk anymore). Its a 800 number I call with questions and if the right person answers the phone(I've had the same person 3 times)she will talk your ear off.

Thanks everyone. MrVipers reply is the way we always handled registration in the past with older sleds. DMV is becoming more and more difficult.

Here in MI you need signed off registration or bill of sale. IF bill of sale IS NOT in the last registered owners name they make you wait at least 1 hour for them to do a vin search. So long a sled comes back clean (NOT stolen, NO liens) they register in your name.
