Per Olav there is no need to vent underhood on the stock motor/carb Viper, Two years ago when Olav big bored his Viper he found that with carbs vented to the airbox the sled was too lean & by going up in main jet size the jetting would not richen past what the 162.5 mains...... 167 mains ran the same exhaust temp. By going to the SRX style venting he could drop main jet size & get the correct jetting on the B/B Vipers.

I have ran 4000 miles jetted with 160 mains & the Tempa-Flow on the top shelf (Nuckles moved under the second shelf on his because it was leaning out on him). I also run MPI filter screens on the Forced Air scoopes & SLP flow-rites in the cowl & vented to the airbox. Last season I was nervous about all the piped Viper burndown & went with 162 mains & it was too rich for my sled & lost topend pull (I thought the T/F would fix it). Of the three Viper I have done with The Aaens thay have all run 160 mains & the piston wash still shows rich. (Yamanator ran a 158 main on the center & less on the PTO & MAG with his Aaen piped Viper for 2500+ miles before lossing the center cylinder & finding water in the carbs)

Even with 160 mains you can burn down the center cylinder if you get bad gas or water in the fuel, I have talked to a couple of members here who lost the center cylinder & found water in the carbs. I never let my sled sit out over night without a full tank of fuel & I run a bit of Klotz in each tank to absorb water... So far so good

I Have CPR bored carbs on a CPR piped VIPER with stock motor. JEFF had me unhook the vent line. To do this he put in SRX needles and nozzles. Im jetted at ..147 1/2...147 1/2...150 on the mag. JEFF said that Im at performance jetting and not to run wide open for long runs. HE wants me at 150's...152 on mag. I may do that. Im still testing it but I havent went over 700 ft yet. JEFF said "NOT" to unhook vents with stock carbs......

vent hoses

Alright thanx guy's,I'm going to look into the tempa flow, have heard good things about it,with 165 mains I'm sure I'm running fat.How about the needle's I've never change the setting yet, just leave stock?bushman, you talked about flow rites, what are these and benefits?I'm curently extending to 136" and bought a rip saw for it,traction should no longer be an issue. What tipe of gearing are you running?

So what do you think of the bored carbs up to this point? Did you lose any bottom end? I almost did mine but figure I would be better off picking up a set used if I could find them. Lightning-Pro has a very good price for taper boring the carbs & you dont need to remove the carbs from the rack. I will give you a bit of time running yours so you can let me know what you think..... If you dont mind.

If you are running 165 mains you are giving up way too much hp upstairs from what I have found, I have never touched the needles on my sled from stock... I dont even know what stock is set @ or how to change them  .

I added the Flow-Rites to help the motor breath when the hood is piled up with snow.

The 136" will help a bunch, I run 136"x 2" with the 8 tooth anti-ratchet drivers geared @ 20/38.... I give up some topend but where I ride its all about kicking their ass 1000' @ a time in deep untracked snow.
