How common is thermostat or water pump failure in these? Viper is running hot for no reason, good snow never had issue before.

I think if your waterpump is hooched it would be leaking a little. There is a small seep hole on them but hard to see. Lay clean paper towel under it and fire it up to see if it catches drips. May have to clean it all off first.

Joe, I beleive if the water pump failed, which is highly unlikely due to its construction, the sled would overheat very quickly, not just run hot but severely overheat. Failure of the thermostat is not common on sleds since they don't get the heat cycles a car gets but it is still possible. Do you see coolant flowing through the plastic bottle when the engine is running? Are the heat exchangers clean?

Just throwing this out there BUT are you sure its actually running hot? Electric/wiring issues can/will trip the temp light when its not actually over heating.

It shut down on the trail and was hot. The coolant bottle was no boiling over. When trying to start it was tight. It cooled off and started. Ran for 10 miles then just shut off, no lights. Let it cool. It started but i elected to tow it with my apex. Trucked it back to camp not the motor is tight.

Sounds more like lean fuel condition more than over heating due to cooling system.
