i have a 2004 viper and i am currently experiencing an issue that goes a little something like this.....
after letting off the throttle and rolling to a stop the engine is not settling back into its idle 1500-1800 ish rpm. its staying around 3000 or so, below clutch engagement and sometimes the rpm actually climbs a little instead of coming down. After quite some time it will sometimes settle back to "normal" idle RPM but often requires a burp of throttle to get this to happen.
I have yet to 100% confirm the following but......this seems to happen more frequently with slow riding speeds, like woods trails as opposed to mashing the gas on an open road or rail bed.
throttle leaver operates freely and smoothly. carb linkages also seem to operate smoothly and never seems to "stick" when exercising the lever, cable and linkage with the engine NOT running. cable does not appear frayed but there is a break in the cale armour at one of the joints, has been that way for a few years now and did not seem to be an issue in the past.
any ideas?

ya, its a lean idle hang up,you need to turn your fuel screws out another half turn more. also, set your idle speed lower to like 1400rpm that also helps
I have the same sled, in my case it started out the same as you, then never dropped to idle with a wack of the throttle. I ended up solving the issue with a new throttle position sensor.

X2 fuel screws out and lower idle to 1400

Could also be low speed jets are partially blocked. My 02 Viper had the same issue and until I removed the low speed jets and ran some wires though it, the problem would not go away.
