I bought a set of rings for my 340 Exciter online from someone, don't even remember who. Was so busy that I didn't take a close look at them when they arrived. Finally got my engine back from porting and the rings are not the right rings! The fiche says I need 820-11611-00-00. What I got are 806-11601-00. They are really wide and don't fit these pistons, what are they for?

Ebay is how I got the wrong ones! Now I am having trouble finding rings. There is something wrong with the fiche as it lists the first part number as the correct rings for the 340 exciter, but when I went and looked at the 433 rings it is the same part number!? That's not right! I would really like to use OEM YAMAHA if I can.

That's what I've been finding but that is impossible. The same part cannot fit 340 and 433! Something is wrong somewhere. Got someone checking for me now.

SPX book shows et340 , gp338 to be 60mm bore and the 433's show 68 mm bore
I see where the problem comes from

the question about the correct number seems to be from the Yamaha info on different sites .... didn't check Yamaha .com
to see if any are correct there .... but it looks like you need the 846 number ,,, maybe ...
Had a quick look at Yamaha home site and it shows the 820 on a 76 ,433 and expect it is wrong.
..
Need to have next seller measure the ring , even not in a hole , should be able to see if it would be 60 or 68mm
Good luck
Ron

Yes, I am finding that conflicting data a few places online. I have been asking sellers to measure and all I've found so far is one set of 433 rings that had been placed in an open 820-11611-00-00 package with 433 handwritten thereon.
Sorry for the lack of the clarity; by being too wide I mean that on these 806-11601-00-00 that I got, the rings are thick, too thick to fit in the ring groove. But the bore is correct. I have not searched yet to see what they're for. I still haven't found a set, but did find some good news for the future on PARTSPAK website in case anyone is interested. Bless YAMAHA, I keep buying various parts for these old girls right from YAMAHA. Doesn't help me right now though.

it looks like once they were unavail from Yamaha , no one ever fixed the books ... also noticed you had a diff number still
and I looked at different models and never saw that number .... old 433's show double rings....
And they seemed to go silly mixing 340 rings and 440 rings in look ups...
Suggest calling a local ., older dealership that may have books or comments in cmptr which number is correct.

we were writing at same time .... any chance it isn't a Yam piston ??

The ones that I got by mistake, 806-11601-00, are for early 338, 70, 71. Two rings to a piston. The good news is I got some rings from one of the great guys on this site. So. I'm good. Or at least I hope! They're not here yet and on the pistons, Murphy could yet make an appearance! lol Thanks Ron.

ok Yamaha parts fiche is right problem is they do not separate the 338 and 433 like they do in the original parts books and there are 2 styles of exciter 340 pistons one has a "L" ring top and the other is a keystone ring which is the same as 338 GPX the "L" rings are available through parts and or kimpex ..........what was the bore again I may have a set in the shop as I run the ex 340 pistons in one of my GPX's
