OK I have a new summer project. I am going to completely strip down and rebuild a 2001 SRX. It will be all black, and I mean everything. There was a black bell pan produced for some series sled, not sure and a black seat. Anyone know the exact models? Tunnel will be powdercoated as will everything that can be.
Will post pictures. Anyone have any suggestions? I am going to use the SRX that I currently have. already has Viper skid with Ohlins, has Viper front end with wide kit and Viper type Ohlins. Motor will be a straight stock rebuild with as many new OEM parts as I can find.

98 srx's had the black bellypan. Sleds like the xt, xtc, phazer 500 and vmax had an all black seat.

here is my attempt, this was done in the summer of 2000, I went for a factory look, as if yamaha had made this model. Long travel, black 98 srx. Things I wasn't thrilled with were the silver pad center. Should have gone black with sprayed yamaha logo a little larger and should have done the silver trim on the dash as a stripe not the whole bezel. Loved pulling up with this sled back then. It drew alot of attention with people for the options that were never offered. Wish I could have built it with the knowledge I have now, not then. That was the sled I learned most everything about suspension on and it was a long journey.

for your sled, its newer ignition, use a digital gauge, viper, rx1 style. simple change over with a couple hundred in parts and makes the sled look more in this century. I would also go with a viper seat, bumper, cover and tank, they make an srx look much more in style. the front end of an srx looks very sleek, the seat looked like it was off a phazer.

BETHEVIPER I will be calling you and AMATOSRX during this project. Sort of a " money no object" deal since I really want to do it lkike the factory. I have a graphics guy looking into doing the exact SRX logo is silver. before I do anything it needs to be stripped down so that I can start with a fresh black powdercoated tunnel. I do want ot keep the PRO ACTION skid vs. bolting in something better, unless you talk me into putting in a MONO shock skid if that is a better deal?

Joe - Do the mono. Its a very easy install. With all the work your gunna do........ ya just cant put that no action pro action back under the sled.

I have a 136 mono and ripsaw with ohlins if you want to go that rout. There is a guy on here I got a supsension from that has a 141 extension he just took off.
a mono is going to ride better than a pro action though tightened up, great valving, not sure if it is worth the bother.

The mono is a pretty easy swap. I love mine and if you are going to put a lot of time and money in the sled it will be worth it. The 136 mono is the way to go in my opinion. I am planning to do a lot of work to my srx this summer. Hopefully getting her back in good shape again. Looking forward to watching this build.

Yes I am looking forward to doing it. I bought it new in 2001 and it has a long history with me. Lots of hours of WIDE OPEN running up in Quebec with no issues. She has about 8500 miles on it so I need to do her Justice. these days I mostly ride my 2006 APEX GT which is finally tuned it right, but there are still days when I take the SRX out and it never fails to impress me. Big project are no stranger to me as I am about to finish a long term CAR PROJECT:

I guess in between the AMX I can work on the SRX!!!!

Please stop it Joe with your " is it difficult" question your killing me. Joe's questions might lead you to believe he isnt capable of this level of repair. Joe's the kinda guy who will tear a truck or jeep all the way down to the frame. Sand blast, paint, then rebuild everything like new. Joe the Mono skid install is slightly harder than solving a small LEGO puzzle.

That's a pretty cool build on the car. Looks like it took a lot of time for sure. I used to be into cars and always wanted to rebuild one from the ground up but never got to. I am not into cars anymore so I would like to do that with my sled. Not sure if I will be able to get that far into it this summer but I would like to. Can't wait to see what the blacked out srx looks like. The pictures from amato and BTV look pretty cool. I did see the one amato has a few years ago but at the time I didn't know anything about a srx. Was too busy looking at the white one. Knowing what I know now I would have been able to appreciate it more. Definitely look sweet in black.

Seat and belly pan
Since I realize that the black belly pan is going to be difficult to find, exactly what year and model belly pans were black and will work in the 2001 SRX. Someone suggested a seat but I am not sure what year all black seat would be best.
Suggestions?
