Hey guys its been two years since I was in here but here's the story. 99 SRX 600. Have replaced overflow cap, two thermostats, water pump impellor, head gaskets, and about 50 gallons of antifreeze. My SRX still overheats if driving on hard pack after about 20 miles. My guess is what I have heard from some other people that after the crank heats up the gear that is supposed to turn the impellar doesn't spin anymore. My heat exchangers turn cold and no coolant is pumping through the system. I'm trying to make a case against yamaha but could use some VIN numbers for those who have had their cranks replaced with this problem. Also my other thought instead of installing a new crank was to install an inline 12 VDC water pump and hook it to a kill switch. Hook up a temp guage and when the system gets to about 200+ I know the gear is spinning and kick off the electric pump. Any suggestions on this one????

Sounds like you've expended most possibilities, ...did you also replace the impeller bearing in the crank case as well?
I watched the guy change the impellar but I don't know if he changed that bearing or not. Somebody told me the fins could wear on those and not pump the water through anymore. That was a crock of shit. That impellor is aluminum. Last time I checked water/antifreeze doesn't wear out aluminum fins.
if the water pump quits turning so does your oil pump, not sure your problem but ill let you know if i hear anything

I had found 2 of those where the gear slips with just a little heat. The last one I had was a 98 700 srx. If you took a propane torch and just put a little, and I mean just a little heat on the gear it would spin. You could heat it to where you could still touch it, probably 120 degree's and it would turn. Simple fix, you can replace the gear and crank pin or just locktite it on.

When u replaced your thermostats were they screwed, im having this same problem. I have changed the thermostat twice. After i changed it, it ran great for a couple runs the started to overheat. So i pilled the thermostat out and sure enough it was screwed again.. Is this a bad couple thermostats or the impellor problem?
