I bought a 1998 SRX with a bad engine so I have never run this setup. Here is what it has for clutching:
The primary spring has blue-yellow markings and a huge shim ( like 1/4 inch thick)
8dn 00 weights with two big rivets
Secondary has a pink yamaha spring wound 6-2 80
Bender 9870c secondary ??
My question is, is this the clutch kit bender offered for the '98 srx? It looks like someone bought the bender power up kit for it as it has v force reeds, cold air intake, bender transfer rods.
I have the engine repaired now and just reassembling the whole sled including changing out the suspension for an edge extended to 144 with a 1.5 track. Is any of this clutch stuff worth working with or just start over with a totally new setup? Gear recommendation too as it has 23-37 which definitely needs to be changed. Thinking 23-40. Running 9 tooth drivers. Any info is greatly appreciated.

that looks to be the old 98 bender srx kit in it from the parts list. the 89 weights were good for topspeed running but were not very aggressive on the upshift, the newer srx 8dn20 weights were a pretty big upgrade over those.
what type of riding are you going to do with the sled?

Thanks for the reply. Mostly groomed trails and a little off trail. We had a pile of snow this year so I thought I would make extend it out and go with a 1.5 track to have something I could use for both.

The bender kit back than was stock 8dn 00 weights with there rivets 4.5 I think and a red spring that was shorter than the Yamaha one, hence the big spacer was used.Good spring but would break in half after a lot of miles on it.lol the secondary used stock spring and 9870.I always liked the setup and had good luck with it against newer srxs.It would pull decent top end but the snap low and midrange is tons better than my 2001.

Great info! Do you know what degrees the 9870 helix was? It's not listed in the helix id post in the tech section. I guess the blue/yellow primary spring was put in after the red one must have broke. If the red one is still available I may give this setup a try.

Some say its a 53/43 .If you are looking for some pointers I would find a 2000 and up drive axle and put some nonslip drivers on it.The 98s might break in half on you.Put some viper trailing arms or flip shock mounts to raise the front of sled.Put the front of the skid frame as low as you can for clearance under the gastank.Limiters will have to be pulled up anyway as the srx is so low.

I just ordered a new bender orange spring to replace the one missing from the kit, and a set of 22-40 gears (1.81 to start out with. I'll see where I'm at after trying that combo. I flipped the front shock mounts for more clearance. Thanks for the info and pointers guys!
