I know I can solder audio wire, but what about a brake or throttle cable? I need to make extensions and I'm wondering if it's possible to solder cable. Thanks guys!

How do you plan on extending the cable housing? I used solder to re attach the "nub" on the end of a clutch cable when we were in a bind.

Those cables are made of stainless and if anything you'd want to be welding that rather than try to solder it.Plus you've only got the small diameter of the cable casing to fit a weld or solder joint in.I'm thinking you would be better off getting the cables your looking to extend from a mountain Viper or a model that has longer factory ones.

I plan on cutting back the housing so there's about a 4" gap from housing end to end. Would it be better to clamp the cable somehow? Trying to keep it cheap!

Cost less for some extended cables than to fill the tank with gas... Skip the next ride and order some up.

Back when i had my phazer 2 and exciter 2 i contacted powermadd about their extensions and was told it would work for gas, oil, and brake cable

Will any of the mountain model cables fit on an xlv 540?

Well that I couldn't say right off,if the ends were the same where they fit into the throttle lever and thread into the carb bracket then I'm thinking they would work but otherwise I would say source a mountain cable from a sled in the same general year or model range.

Your lucky to live close enough to one of the Royal stores to be able to do that,I have to rely on the catalog or trying to get someone on the phone that knows something when I have a issue with a part or when deals come along for in store specials only.

Yes it's handy having it right there on my way to work...can be a bad thing at times too though because sometimes it's too handy if Ya know what I mean..lol
