looking to get slightly better ride. What shocks are best for there money and will fit in a 1988 phazer rear suspension. I weigh about 160 but need spring adjusters set to tightest/stiffest setting. Whats the problem? All torsion springs look good, none broken. Will shocks help?

Also what are my front suspension options? Fronts bottom out every now and then, never used to. Do struts/TSS need rebuild?

If you had the front limiter strap tight, that was probably the problem. Good aftermarket shocks are very hard to find these days. Do not get Kimpex or any other cheap mail order type. The stock Yamaha are better, and that is probably your best option for the front and rear.

For the front shocks, you are SOL being an 88. There may have been different springs available but Im not certain. For the rear shocks Kimpex gas shocks arent bad as a replacement for an older sled. I wouldnt pay what yamaha wants for an OEM shock for a very marginal, if any difference on a sled of this vintage in my honest opinion.
I dont remember off hand on the earlier phazers. but there may be multiple holes for the rear arm on the rails. If so, put the rear arm back as far as you can. This will give you a stiffer ride without spending any coin. It also helps if you flip the front spring hook around to the non-worn side or replace if both sides worn.

ok just wondering. Plan on replacing shocks now just because old ones are just that- old almost 27 years now. If anyone has fox shocks for an old phazer, I have seen them on the TY forums, I want them.
Sled is getting a ton of money put in it and quite frankly I could care less what people think lol, I have heard don't put the money into an old sled, yet I know where the sled has been its whole life, how it was treated and it has never left me stranded. It does everything I need it to, and I'd rather put $600 into it than put that 600 towards a new used sled which could have boat loads of issues.

I purchased and installed Ryde FX replacement shocks in four of my Phazer IIs (two 91, a 93, and a 96) as my 93 Exciter II SX. The ride was an improvement but from everything I've read, and with limited options for older machines, short of swapping the skid, this was my best option in my opinion.

Another brand of shock that was available back then for the track suspension was Carrera. They were a big player in the off road shock market. I still run one, but it needs to be rebuilt. They are chrome plated and have three levels of adjustable damping.

Pretty hard to find. Search ebay and call salvage yards you might get lucky
