So I currently have the wide front end kit from pioneer performance on my sled and have everything lined up. But I noticed that I have some slop yet in my steering and was just looking at the bell crank and realize that the heim joints on them might be wore out. I have been looking around on this site and ebay for this bell crank that was made by Sno Tek. I remember reading on here that the company went out of business years ago, but I'd really like to pick one of these up but they seem to be almost impossible to find. Any ideas?

I remember those Sno Tek cranks but always wondered how they were better than the OEM one.I know that the first few years of V Max and SRX sleds didn't have the grease zerk on them so that may be where the Sno Tek ones were better or they may possibly have a smoother bearing making for an easier steering effort,I don't know. Those tie rod ends are still available from Yamaha,I just did all mine on my 98 SRX last season, but the bell crank itself still has some slack in it on the bolt itself. What I mean is the washers that sandwich the crank on the bolt could stand to be a fraction thicker because I have noticed mine riding up and down on the bolt as I turn the handlebars,it's something that I will be exploring to tighten up.

I don't know exactly what your referring to, but could you squeeze a Teflon washer in there and let it wear in?What I mean is the washers that sandwich the crank on the bolt could stand to be a fraction thicker because I have noticed mine riding up and down on the bolt as I turn the handlebars,it's something that I will be exploring to tighten up.

I don't know if you've ever had the bell crank off or seen one taken off before but there's just the one bolt that holds it in place and it threads into the frame/bulkhead.There is a washer that sits on either side of the crank, and the bolt passes through all this.A teflon washer would no doubt work in taking up the slack for a while, until it started to wear out at least. What I'm thinking about doing is adding a piece of shim stock or even just a piece of an old coffee or spray paint can and see what that does for me.

How about a copper crush washer? Or as many layers of pop can to take up the slack. I use plain 'ol scissors to cut em up.

I'm thinking your idea is logical. Just the material is not suitable. Select a material that will not wear out quickly.

Yeah,a hardened washer that was a thou thicker would be ideal,or possibly getting a few to chose from in stepped thicknesses from one thousandths to say 3 thou.

Couple of great ideas there.
Check Mcmaster Carr website. They have stainless shims in different O.D.'s and thicknesses. You can put your own hole in it.
