i bought a 88 exciter for cheap. its pretty rough but i got it running and when i went to put the belt on there was no way it was gonna go, ive never had that much trouble putting a belt on. when i try to pull it over the belt is so tight the track turns. i put the back up on a block and got it started and the primary has a bit of a wobble. anybody have an idea on what i have to do? ive never pulled a clutch apart so i doont really know anything about the springs and whatnot inside.

Wobbly clutch may be a sign of a bent crank. I would pull the clutch (use a clutch puller) and then check crank run-out with a dial gauge. I would perform this check before doing anything else or running it anymore. Post back the results and we can go from there.
