no top speed with sxr side by side plus clutch getting warm.

Took it out for a test. Now it will stay side by side sons act sled. Will stop only do 98-99 mph. The only thing it will engage at 5500-6000 now with shin in. So if I am correct shin kinda equals new spring. With that said not sure if replacing primary spring will take care of it. It does not bind though and run good just no top speed yet. I am going to check power valves and take shim back out.
 
your post are kind of hard to comprehend,the videos your putting up show engagement speed, they are really of not great importance as its the peak rpm your after.

So now, you gained 8mph by shimming the front spring now(too much shim by the way) so that tells you the front spring is tired. if all it would do is 90 mph before shim and 98mph after shim you need a new spring. No, a shim can not be equal to replacing a spring because your going to change the engagement speed and the shift out speed, so you can adjust 1 without effecting the other. Your shim is too thick looking at your 5500 rpm engagement speed. For snow you want to be at 4000rpm.

But what all this really comes down to is what is the peak rpm now when you ran it at 98mph?

8300 - 8400 Both sleds are running the same rpm and speed. So I would say engine and rpm are on. Just not top end. I am going to take shims out of primary. and keep it at 70 deg.

1. Before any changes 97-98 mph rpm was unknown.
2. changed degree from 70 to 80 dropped to 90 rpm and engagement was 4500.
3. shimmed primary and back to 70 degree speed back to 97-99 but engagement was 5500 -6000

In post #13 you were asked whats the WOT rpm, your reply was 8000rpm at 90mph.

so then I told you the primary spring was junk, you made a shim and took sled back out

moving to post #21, the sled now does 98-99mph with a shim

then to post #23, its now running at 8300-8400rpm with the shimmed spring, so that tells you the spring is junk up front. you wouldnt have gained 8-9mph and 300-400rpm if it was fine before adding the shim.

My suggestion... buy a NEW primary spring the same one as you had in there before and in the meantime, go under the sled and tighten up the track 2 complete turns on the adjusters, your top speed will pick up.
 
Like Mr. Viper stated.....primary spring is sacked. Order one from Pioneer Performance ( right in NY) probably have it in a day or so.
 
I guess I never asked but what primary spring is in it anyways?

I see you have a 717 area code, call F/S yamaha they do alot with snowmobiles, if its a yamaha spring they might have it in stock.

I am going to buy both springs. But the reason i picked up the top speed is i I went back to 70 instead on 80 if i am correct. seems like when i went to 80 I lost top speed. When i was at 70 with the shim it just engaged later and got my speed back up.

Also remember I have a expert x suspension. I can try it but the guys told me to run kinda loose. Maybe I am wrong. lol

Yes they are about a hour drive from me. I am just going to order and have it shipped for the same price :) Just wont have it for the big storm coming this weekend. Just wanted to know when they get here I put them in and all is good if the snow melts before I can test the springs. that is why I am testing to make sure I am looking at everything.
 
"So if I am correct shin kinda equals new spring"......NO, not even kinda. We can adjust good springs with shims, a bad spring with a shim is still a bad spring. If for no other reason than saving money down the road get a new spring. Engagement of 5500-6000 may feel all cool race-sled-ish but your going to break (or wear out sooner at the least) other more expensive drive line parts.

I am not convinced there's a problem with the secondary spring, not a bad idea to have a spare on hand. When "tuning" clutches you only want to change 1 thing at a time so you know what it was that produced the result. I see 3 other sleds in your signature, any chance any of them has the same spring you can swipe and test? When you get the springs swap the primary spring and give it a test spin.

No the other sleds have different springs. I was thinking the same thing.
