How many others are feeling the effects of the crappy fuel being sold? For the last several years now myself and many others I know have experienced bad fuel that will not detonate especially in really cold weather. We keep paying more and the quality is getting poorer! Snow Tech Magazine has made mention of this on several occasions over the last few years! Lots of sledders who start replacing parts assuming it Can't be the fuel????? YES IT CAN and PROBABLY IS. I know there are additives available to lessen the issues but we shouldn't have to especially at the prices we are paying!

Just had to spend about 500 bucks because of it. It sucks! Mine needed new gaskets for the carbs and my fathers skipoo needed new carb boots at $161 a piece just from the fuel drying them out. It just really sucks.

We have not seen any problems with fuel for several years. All is good around here. Oh, Indiana and in Michigan. Again, we are not having any issues at all on any of our sleds, outboards, cars, ect ect ect. We do use Star Tron fuel treatment regularary. Al

you should see our gas prices..we here are currently at $5.26 a gallon.Our gallon about a liter more then in the US..but still we pay a lot more and we make our own oil yet..go figure.
The cost of fuel is not soley based on demand. More on speculators in the stock markets.

The problems being blamed on ethanol fuel - dirty carbs and plugged jets, deteriorated parts, burn downs, gel in the fuel system etc., etc., all happened before ethanol was used. Now it gets the blame for it all.
Ethanol is a natural cleaner and will dissolve some plastics, dirt and any other contaminants in the fuel system and if left alone the contaminants will precipitate out of the fuel and into all parts of the fuel system but it is Especially critical in the carbs where it can plug up jets and air passages. That being said I have learned to work around the ethanol. I find its not as much an ethanol issue as a combustion issue. The new fuels will not explode in cold weather very well and they have a a very short shelf life unlike fuels of old when you could leave it for months on end without issue.
In 30 plus years of riding this is the first season I had to deal with fuel issues. First ride turned into a lot of dollars and time replaceing components that either dry out or deteriated. Started with pilots plugged, then carbs overflowing and hydro lock-needle and seats, then flecks of gasket material in bowls. That was from fuel pump. All my fuel lines had to be replaced also. My parts guy claims this has been a commom theme in the last 2 years.

Don't forget that these sleds are getting to the age that these parts could have been due for replacing anyways.
Yes remember we are running very old sleds. Our Phazer is 21 years old. The SXR's are 14 years old. We are still running strong with new sleds every weekend on some of the roughest trails in Michigan. These Yamahas are very good, but they do need to have some services just due to age. When I was a kid, Say 10 years old, my dad bought a brand new Yamaha 440 exciter in 1978. We also had Mercury sleds, The oldest Merc was a 1973, that was a Very old sled then. Imagine in 78 running a sled and having it just as reliable as brand new that was made in 1963. Na, not going to happen. Al
