Hey guys new to the site. I just picked my first and long loved 2000 srx700. The outside was very well taken care of....beautiful.....but the engine was a disaster. More so the pipes. The covers on the pipes are beyond polishing and the pipes them selves are being blasted and painted. My question is how bad is it if i run the pipes without the shields?. What about header wrap.....such as the wrap you would buy from summit racing for headers.?. I need them to look good as well as safe.
 
I run my pipes without the wrap. The wrap is designed to hold the heat in the pipe for more consistent performance. I honestly never noticed a difference. I removed them for weight savings. You could ceramikote them. I tried header wrap once, they rust the pipes................SRXtreme

So u didn't have any melting issues with the covers gone? Thats my biggest issue.I have two complete sets of oem pipes and mufflers and was thinking of finding the best of all 6 insulation (the stuff inside the shields) and wrap the headers with the exhaust wrap but put the insulation under the wrap. so it would be sandblasted and painted pipes followed by the insulation followed by the exhaust 2" wrap. But if the stock pipes dont get too hot to interfere with anything then I wont do anything at all. Install the pipes along with the mbrp can and call it a day.

Nothing has melted. You need to make a steel plate that goes over the shock tower. The bottom pipe will rest on it. I did a copy of the Bender one................SRXtreme
 
Ya my belly pan has been melted already not through but melted nonetheless. What does this plate look like on the tower? what is it made of and how did u attach it?and can i make my own? Tried looking for it on Benders site....no luck!
