Sx viper pipe question

I took my pipe off of my sled today to clean it up and paint it. I removed the chrome cover off of the pipe and noticed that there was a golf ball size dent on the bottom of the pipe. Will this affect the performance of the sled or should I just leave it as it. I know the dent would cause very little restriction but I was wondering if it could cause a difference in the back pressure. Also, do I need to leave the chrome pipe cover on the pipe. I frst thought it was for looks but notice that it has insulation on it so I thought it might of been a heat shield?

The shield is to hold the heat in the pipe. They perform better with heat in the pipe. If you know someone with a stud welder and slide hammer you could pull the dent out. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it

Mu buddy has a slide hammer that he said he'd help me pull the dent out with. Thanks for the info! Also, anybody know what the best paint is for my pipe and silencer?
 
As far as a dent in the pipe goes, I just asked that one last week and got some great suggestions.

Any hi-temp paint will work. Although I never had any luck keeping it on the pipe. Tends to flake off. Mabey if you covered up your vents the first time out w/ your freshly painted pipe. Get it good and hot without any cold air blowing on it until it is fully cured.

Thanks for the info everyone👍 I'm just going to use the slide hammer because I'm not too worried about what it looks like and the dent is not visible unless the pipe is taken out. Picked up some BBQ paint from home hardware today and I'll probably paint it this weekend. Another problem that I am having I'd taking off the bolts that hold the y pipe on. The outer ones I managed to get loose using a 10 mm socket but the inner bolts require a wrench to loosen. I tried to place a 10 mm wrench on the nuts but tried to spin them and the nut came close to stripping. Any suggestions?

You might still need to heat an OE pipe up in conjunction w/ the dent puller. A propane torch w/ mapp gas will get it plenty hot.
An aftermarket pipe might not need mapp gas as they are not as heavy gauged than OE.

Usually golf ball size and smaller dents don't hurt performance, at least on my motorcycles. I've repaired dents on several 2 stroke dirt bike pipes. I have adjustable plugs the bolt onto the ends of the pipe. I pressurize the pipe to about 40 psi and heat it with a map gas torch. I start heating the outer edges of the dent and work inward in a circular pattern, the pressure will make the dent disappear. I heat the dent until it starts to glow dull red in color.

It's even a little smaller than a golf ball size... should I just paint it and not worry about it??

You probably can't tell any difference, but if you're like me, you can't stand it knowing there's a dent in a location that can't bee seen :lol:
