Does the sled have reverse? Sounds like the reverse counter gear may not be fully seating on the lower chain drive gear. If its slipped for a while and things are boogered up your going to have to replace it as a set.

Ill try and get to pulling off chain case cover and post a picture on this thread. Drive belt you're saying Id guess?

yes I had a belt do exactly what you are describing, Replace it with a new one if possible.

Picked up a new yamaha belt today so we will see what difference it makes.

If it's a metallic clunk then Check the belt.its the clutches slamming shut on a bad belt. If the sled was frozento the ground and someone gassed it too long it wears the belt in one spot. The clutch then slams shut every revolution.
Check the driveshaft bearings too

I'm sorry. I'm pretty sure its cogs on driveshaft because I can tighten the crap out of the track and it quiets down and does it much less.
Might be just masking the problem by tightening the track. Keep looking til you find something that is causing it.

If he rode it that loose for that long I would be thinking the drive lugs on the track are probably worn pretty good and that track is on borrowed time. Or put on anti ratchets in leu of changing the track. Cheaper for sure.

I can't imagine its much else than the inner "hex" of the cogs being slightly rounded out after 11K miles. I bought the sled and it had a bit if this problem but far less noticeable. I replaced the entire chain case guts at that time which all looked pretty normal a few years back... Then 2-3 years ago the driveshaft bearing went and the speedo stopped working. Replace that... I just took it in to have the clutches aligned and cleaned.
Your adjustable transfer rods are causing this. The skid goes back and collapses for great traction, but goes so far that your track gets loose. Will only happen when under load. I prefer to put anti ratchet drivers on. You will never be happier. You also free up a lot of power by a looser track. I take stock rods and take the plastic spacers out. But need anti ratchet drivers. Lots of weight transfer.

No it did it without the adj trans rods too but ill try tightening more and see what happens.
