Ok, So since last season I've noticed my 700 is boggin when i get into deep powder and was curious if snow dust getting in there was possible , and if it could be causing the issue.. The airbox in these seems pretty restrictive, and has a bit to go thru before it hits the carbs.. But am wondering if this is the issue..

and I wanted to replace both with this.. Ive had this laying around for years, still in the bag, but didn't know if 3/8 was to thick for the "filter" portion
 
You Might Want to clean your carbs and airbox because little chunks of foam get in there and might clog your intake.
And It could be jets too. 3/8 might be ok.

I would say that yes a lack of filter material is causing snow injestion and its being amplified by the sled being a 97 and not having heated carbs.

I would buy the actual pre filter for the hood because it needs to cover the rear portion and under hood portion of the grates. That stuff you have, maybe you could use it on the cage but it might be difficult attaching it.
 
Thanks guys.. I just planned on re covering the "cage" which I would assume is the rounded part covering the intake?

I bought one of those gutter filters from Home Depot and cut it to fit that pre-filter area. The filter on top of the box I bought new from Yami. The prior owner had neither, so I can't imagine the stuff that's been sucked through my intakes.
 
I have a brand new pre filter that is made to cover the foam between the dash and hood, I'd sell it for $20 shipped if you are interested.
 
Awesome. Thank you everyone! Those gutter filters look perfect and I'll read up a little more on the "infamous powder bog" thread about sealing things up under the hood. The hood vent basically desinigrated when I took it out , so I'm sure there is some gunk in the carbs, or at minimum , in the box.

I've never cleaned the carbs before, its always been something I've been nervous about, but I would like to try it, possibly.

I noticed the 700 tripples have a mid range bog that can be fixed with a notch or spacer? So if I decide to pull the carbs is there anything else I can do to help out the sled in any way?

It only has 4000 miles on it, top end was freshened up at 2500 and has been running great, so I want to keep it that way.

As odd as it is to say , sometimes I enjoy riding the 700 more than my 2011 nytro xtx

So what will I need to try to get the low end /mid range/RPM gurgle away? Ill pull the clutches and clean them ( first time ) so Is all I need is 3 of those reed stoppers you posted, ? If I need other things , could you send me a link? thanks!!
 
I did see this in a thread, but can't exactly pinpoint what i need.. ANy one have pics?


1 taped up the headlight area so the airbox only got air from the cold flows on the dash.

2 new plug caps and sealed them

3 new exhaust deflector from yamaha

4 Reasealed all the exhaust fittings wiht RTV on my pipes

5 Made a rubber exhaust donut for the belly pan for my tripples so the exhaust gas couldnt sneak back in.. now its gone and it performs amazing!!
 
Just curious what you used for the foam donut to seal the exhaust to the belly pan? Most things would melt.

I just used a hard plastic mud flap piece on the top, cut it to shape I wanted and made a aluminum piece for the bottom side, kinda sandwiched the belly plastic.. hight temp silicone and its sealed.

so the stoppers and spacers, correct?

Also noticed when I pick up the rear end the track is running , which damn near seems like 10 mph.. Deflection looks ok, and the belts seems to be sitting ok, so I dont really want to adjust that , do I? Also wouldn't think it's idle as it will idle right around 1500 rpm when on the ground, and when I pick up the back of the sled to let the track spin, it's still at 1500
 
You don't need both you only need the stopper notch or spacers. The notch is the cheaper way to go but have head spacers are the best way to go.
Track should free spin a little but not that fast. What's your track tension like?
